Bryan, TX (June 18, 2009) – This Saturday, June 20, three families will have the promise of a brighter future as they receive the keys to their Habitat for Humanity homes.  Each of the three homes has been sponsored by unique donors and programs, totaling over $135,000 in sponsorship dollars.  Many community groups and individual volunteers invested over 3,000 hours of volunteer labor to complete construction projects.  The ceremonies are open to the public.

9:00AM-Dedication Ceremony of Collegiate Challenge Build
Sponsored by Collegiate Challenge 2009 – 1316 Patsy’s Glen, Bryan (Angels Gate Subdivision)

Through Habitat for Humanity International’s Collegiate Challenge program, students forgo their spring breaks to build homes across the country for families in need.  Students from the University of Kansas, The Air Force Academy, and Mineral Area College did just that for the Ramirez family.  The family will receive their keys at a ceremony beginning at 9:00AM.  The home was generously sponsored by The Lucille & John B. Dougherty Charitable Trust, College Station Rotary, Drs. Peter Witt & Joyce Nies, and Whataburger & the Whataburger Family Foundation.

10:00AM-Dedication Ceremony of Two Corporate Challenge Builds
Sponsored by Corporate Challenge 2009 – 1308 Patsy’s Glen & 1312 Patsy’s Glen, Bryan (Angels Gate Subdivision)

The Newsome and Whittine families will experience the commitment of the local business community as 30 companies will celebrate the dedication of their new homes.  The local community has shown commendable support and for the first time was able to complete two Corporate Challenge builds in one year!  The homes to be dedicated are located in Habitat’s Angels Gate subdivision.

The sponsoring program for this home, The Corporate Challenge Program, motivates local businesses to pool their financial and human resources to make a local family’s dream of homeownership come true.  Each participating business sends out a crew of volunteers, usually company employees, to invest the manual labor to construct the home with the partner family.  Business participants walk away empowered with a built moral among staff and knowing they contributed to a better future for a neighbor in need.

The 30 local businesses contributed nearly $90,000 and over 2,000 volunteer hours to complete the Newsome and Whittine homes.  Event lead sponsors include:  The Eagle, KBTX Media, Wells Fargo Bank, Texas Transportation Institute, and Volvo Rents.  Participants in the 2009 Corporate Challenge program include:  Abby Johnson Design, ACME Glass Co, Inc., Aggieland Title Company, ANCO Insurance, Best Buy, Blue Baker, C.C. Creations, City Bank Texas, Commerce National Bank, Compass Bank, ConocoPhillips-Bryan Liquid Power Plant, Curry Plumbing, First Victoria National Bank, H-E-B, Hillco Electric LLC, Hilton College Station, Home Depot Foundation, Infinity Pro Sports & Brazos Valley Bombers, Knowledge Based Systems, Inc., MicroAge, Prosperity Bank, Sanderson Farms, Texas Commercial Waste, and University Title Company.
